Cohere builds models for enterprise deployment: secure, fast, and predictable rather than maximally capable. Command A (command-a-03-2025) is its agent-optimized flagship, carrying a 256K-token context window and built for tool use, agents, retrieval-augmented generation, and multilingual work.
Available in Ollang Workflows as cohere/command-a — Document Translation, Subtitle Translation, and AI Dubbing. See the Translation catalog.

Coverage

Command A covers the 23 languages of global business: English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Polish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Dutch, Czech, Indonesian, Ukrainian, Romanian, Greek, Hindi, Hebrew, and Persian. That list is narrow next to the 100+ language providers, but its composition is unusual: Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Ukrainian, Romanian, Czech, and Vietnamese are all first-class rather than long-tail.

Key capabilities

  • 256K-token context window — large enough for whole document sets in a single pass.
  • Best-in-class retrieval-augmented generation with grounding and tool use. This is the strongest fit in the catalog for cross-lingual RAG, where a translation must be traceable to an internal source of truth rather than generated freely.
  • Efficient deployment footprint, which is what makes private and VPC deployment realistic for regulated industries.
  • Predictable, low-latency inference for pipelines with throughput commitments.

Where it fits in a workflow

Command A suits enterprise localization where the constraint is governance rather than capability: regulated industries, secure environments, or pipelines where translated output must cite internal documentation. Its Middle Eastern and Central/Eastern European coverage is a genuine strength relative to models that treat those languages as an afterthought.

Trade-offs

  • 23 languages. Confirm coverage before committing a Workflow — this is the narrowest language list of any LLM in the translation catalog.
  • Its maximum output is 8K tokens, shorter than the frontier tiers, which matters for very long single-response Orders.
  • Tuning favors correctness and groundedness over voice, so it is not the strongest choice for expressive or narrative content.
Cohere also publishes Command A Translate (command-a-translate-08-2025), a dedicated machine translation model covering the same 23 languages, and Command A+ (command-a-plus-05-2026) with text and image input. Ollang’s cohere/command-a provider runs the general Command A model.
